The Carrathool Shire Multi Service Outlet (MSO) provides various services to the Hillston, Goolgowi, Merriwagga, Rankins Springs and Carrathool communities.

We provide:

  • Home Care Packages
  • Community Transport
  • Home Modifications and Maintenance
  • Meals
  • Domestic Assistance
  • Weekly Day Respite Services
  • Brokered Services

Are you 65 years or over (50 or over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people) please call the Australian Government My Aged Care Contact Centre on 1800 200 422 (Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm) or visit myagedcare.gov.au

Community Transport

Community Transport is available Monday to Friday. This service is subsidised by the NSW Government, and is available for all residents of Carrathool Shire.

Our service runs regularly to Griffith and Wagga Wagga but bookings are essential. Contact the Hillston Office on 02 6961 7600 for more information or to book your trip.

Transport costs vary depending on pick up location and drop off, fees can be found in the current year Fees and Charges. Carers rates are available.

Community Shopping Bus

Shopping Bus services will continue in 2024, with the bus heading from Hillston to Griffith on the 2nd Friday of each month.

This service is available to all residents of the shire, with pickup’s available in Hillston, Merriwagga or Goolgowi and transport contributions start at only $10.  The bus will leave Hillston around 9am to head to Griffith and leave Griffith around 2pm.

Note: If you do not hold a Home Care Package or other funded care package such as a NDIS package you are eligible for the CHSP/CTP funding, and only need to pay for the client contribution.

Children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult and be old enough to travel without use of a car seat.

Respite Services

Council operates respite day services in Goolgowi from 9.30 am to 11.30 am each Wednesday at the Old Council Chambers with a morning tea and activities.

Transport is available to the sessions from Hillston and Merriwagga but bookings are essential and fees may apply.

Respite services provide planned short term, time-limited breaks for families and other unpaid carers of children, young people and adults with a disability – with the intention that families / carers resume care at the end of the respite period. They are services that assume the caring role during the period of respite.

All Community Care Workers hold current first aid certificates and have undergone a police record check.

MSO Day Trips

In addition to weekly respite service at the Goolgowi CWA Hall the MSO also organises monthly days out to surrounding areas and tourist attractions. These days run from February – December each year.

These are advertised locally and on Council’s Facebook and the Featured Programs on the home page of this website when available.

Our upcoming planned day trips are:

  • Wednesday 28 February – Holden Museum, Echuca
  • Wednesday 13 March 2024 – Pioneer Park Museum, Griffith
  • Wednesday 17 April 2024 – Bishops Lodge, Hay

Past day trips have included the Junee Chocolate Factory, Whitton Malt House, Carrathool Pub for lunch, Griffith Regional Theatre, Altina Wildlife Park and Hay War Memorial Museum.
