The reconstruction of High Street Hillston is now complete. The Street was officially reopened by the Hon John Cobb MP on Saturday 9th May 2009.
Mayor of Carrathool Shire Council, Cr Peter Laird said the multi-million dollar revitalisation of Hillston High Street was the culmination of over 12 months of concentrated effort by Carrathool Shire Council.
"Carrathool Shire Council recognised the need to freshen up the Hillston High Street and turn it into what we see today - a revitalised and vibrant place that is attracting visitors"
"This project to revitalise High Street, Hillston was funded by Carrathool Shire Council along with the Roads & Traffic Authority and Country Energy, and it is another terrific example of Carrathool Shire Council's endeavours to boost the social and economic development of this area."
Mayor, Cr Peter Laird said the revitalisation works included asphalt paving with brick edging, new kerb and guttering, demolition works, heritage street lighting, street furniture and trees, landscaping, and the underlining of power lines and telecommunications with an al fresco dining area still to come.
"This project has definitely improved the look and amenity of High Street, which now provides locals and visitors with a pleasant, comfortable and visually attractive environment in which to shop," Cr Peter Laird said.
