Carrathool Shire Council provides and maintains reticulated potable (drinkable) water supplies to the towns and villages of Hillston, Goolgowi, Merriwagga & Carrathool.
The water supplied is groundwater sourced from the Lower Lachlan Valley aquifer via deep bores. Council provides quality control by way of aeration and disinfection as required by government authorities. The water consistently meets standards laid down in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Raw (untreated) water is also piped into the Goolgowi village for outside use.
